Most driveway problems are drainage problems.
South of the Mersey the ground is heavy clay. It holds water, and a drive laid without falls, a proper sub-base or somewhere for the rain to go will pool, sink and push damp back towards the house.
Since 2008, a new front driveway over five square metres has to be permeable or drain to your own land — or it needs planning permission. We build to that as standard, whether that means a permeable surface, a soakaway, or an ACO channel taking water away from the highway.
