How we work
Five stages.
No shortcuts.
A driveway is mostly the part you can't see once it's finished. Here's what actually happens between the quote and the handover — and why each stage earns its place.
Site visit & honest survey
We come out, measure up and dig a test hole or two to see the ground rather than guess it. We talk through how you use the drive, where the water can go, and any conservation-area or dropped-kerb issues. You get a written, itemised quote — base, surface and drainage separated out.
Dig out & muck away
The old surface and soft ground come out to a firm sub-grade, and the spoil is carted off — not buried on site to save a skip. This is where the depth for a lasting drive is won or lost, so we dig to what the surface and loading actually need.
Sub-base & drainage
A geotextile membrane separates ground from stone, then MOT Type 1 is laid and compacted in layers with a plate or roller. Drainage goes in at the same stage — soakaway, channel or linear drain — sized and, on clay, tested to actually work.
Laying course & surface
The surface goes on to a measured fall, away from the house and thresholds: blocks bedded and consolidated, resin trowelled to depth, stone laid on a full mortar bed, or tarmac machine-laid in binder and wearing courses. Edges are restrained and haunched.
Finish, clean & guarantee
Joints sanded or pointed, ironwork set to level, the drive washed down and the site left clean. You get your ten-year written guarantee on the base and workmanship, and straightforward advice on keeping the surface right.
